Project: Black sheet metal and wood staircase in a new office building
Location: Tatoi, Attica, Greece
Scope: geometry analysis, detailed design and construction
Architects: Kokkinou + Kourkoulas
The challenge of this project was to unite the two differently shaped ascending movements – upper and under side - of the staircase in one sculptural whole.
While the upper part of the staircase follows a simple unvarying spiral interrupted by two landings (offset), the underside keel-like part winds its way up the building’s three levels in a continuous uninterrupted shape. To achieve that it was designed by a spiral with a continuously variable pitch.
